It is a wall hanging of an otter swimming through the kelp. Pictured is the finished "master" in clay. It is about 7" in diameter, but I'm thinking of enlarging it to 12". It will be cast in bronze or maybe resin if the bronze will be too heavy to easily hang . So the design is finished, but there is still more work to do.

New Works Ready to Fly

Fledgling ©2012 Kristine TaylorMy latest pieces, The Heron, Fledgling, and Macaw, are back from the foundry and ready to take flight. I will be entering several exhibitions this year and need to select and photograph the works I will submit for jurying. It is just hard to choose…

Back Again!

Team 100 2012 RobotFor the last nine years, I have taken off the first six weeks of the year to mentor a local high school robotics team http://www.team100.org It is FIRST Robotics, an international program for high school students, designed to bring the passion and excitement of team sports to science and technology. Basically, the kids are given six weeks to design, prototype, and build a 120 lb. robot that can function on its own and by remote control to perform a challenging game against other teams. As one of the team’s mentors, I teach the kids how to weld, and how to use shop tools and machines. It is a very intense six weeks but for many it is a life changing experience. Over and over again I have seen shy, aimless kids find their passion, friends, and a career path.

I’m getting all the critters ready for my upcoming joint show "A Summer's Dream" at Gallery House in Palo Alto. http://www.galleryhouse2.com/ I will have three new bronze sculptures: the Lioness, the Night Fox, and the Kangaroo. The show runs July 19 to August 22, and the reception is July 22, from 6 to 8 pm. I’m doing the show with artists Karen Mumford who paints brilliant flowing forms in oils, and Patricia Nojima, who does wonderful watercolors in fanciful colors.

If you are in San Diego, stop by the Shorelines Gallery on 411 Market Street. I have just consigned eight pieces to their wonderful gallery. http://www.slsdgallery.com/artists.php

Can’t leave home? No Problem! I’m now in the online gallery at Xanadu Gallery in Scottsdale AZ. Check it out at http://www.xanadugallery.com/Artists/index.asp

"Barn Swallows," "Preening Swan," & "Tumble of Trout" on Exhibition

"Barn Swallos" © Kristine TaylorI’ve wanted to set up a blog for a while now, and since good news has been tumbling in lately, I figured now is a good time to start blogging.

My sculpture of Barn Swallows has been accepted to the Woodson Art Museum’s Birds in Art exhibition. This is a prestigious international exhibit, so I’m thrilled to have been selected out of 900 submissions. The selected 100 pieces of both paintings and sculpture will be on display at the museum in Wausau, WI in September, and then starts a yearlong tour across the country (I’ll post an itinerary soon)."Preening Swan"
© Kristine Taylor

AND… my sculpture “Preening Swan” has been accepted to the Society of Animal Artists 51st Annual Exhibition of Art and the Animal. This is the first year I have been a member of the society, so once more I’m thrilled to have been chosen to exhibit. The exhibition starts at the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City, Michigan, and then tours CO, MO, VA and FL. I’ll let you know where and when the Swan visits."Tumble of Trout"
© Kristine Taylor

My latest work, the larger version of Tumble of Trout, is now on display at Gallery House in Palo Alto, CA (www.galleryhouse2.com). I think this piece would make a wonderful tabletop fountain, or cast even larger as an outdoor fountain.

I have several pieces at the foundry at the moment, in various stages of completion. There is a fox, a lioness, and a kangaroo. I hope they will all be ready for my joint show in July/August at Gallery House. Stay tuned…
